OUR FUTURE ATLANTA IS CLEAN

  • FACT: Atlanta is home to 10 different watersheds that are vital to our region’s water supply.

  • FACT: The Atlanta region has 1,500 miles of streams that don’t meet state water quality standards.


OUR FUTURE ATLANTA IS ACCESSIBLE

  • FACT: 3 out of 4 metro Atlantans drive to work alone. The average commute is over 30 minutes.

  • FACT: Atlanta has an estimated 2,200 miles of sidewalks, many of them broken. over a 4 year period settlements for lawsuits over broken and dangerous walkways costs Atlanta $4.4 million!

  • FACT: Under current City of Atlanta law, most sidewalks and their upkeep and repair are the responsibility of private property owners like you!

OUR FUTURE ATLANTA IS EDUCATED

  • FACT: In 2016 APS’s graduation rate was only 71.6%.

  • FACT: Fewer than 3 out of 4 kids are graduating high school in Atlanta.


OUR FUTURE ATLANTA IS GREEN

FACT: We are adding many new parks across Atlanta, yet the parks budget is down 53% from 1997 (adjusted for inflation), not allowing enough funding to keep up our green spaces.

OUR FUTURE ATLANTA IS AFFORDABLE

  • FACT: Affordable housing means a household shouldn’t spend more than 30% of their income on housing costs (rent/mortgage+upkeep).

  • FACT: Half of Atlanta area households pay more than 30% of their income on housing costs.

  • FACT: More than a quarter of Atlanta area households pay 50% of their income on housing costs.


OUR FUTURE ATLANTA IS HEALTHY

  • FACT: 17.6% of people under 65 in Atlanta don’t have health insurance.

  • FACT: Food deserts are areas where people don’t have easy access to a grocery store. There are over 35 food deserts inside the perimeter.

  • FACT: Atlanta is ranked as one of the most unequal cities in America.

  • FACT: Almost 20% of Atlantans live on $15,000 a year or less.


OUR FUTURE ATLANTA IS PARTICIPATORY

  • FACT: Only 30% of people voted in our last big mayoral election.

  • FACT: Nationally only 20% of people vote for local elections when there isn’t a big national race, like a presidential one, also happening.

  • FACT: Atlanta is ranked as a top-tier city for arts related businesses per capita.

  • FACT: Annual public funding for the arts in Atlanta lags behind even regional competitors like Charlotte.


OUR FUTURE ATLANTA IS SAFE

  • FACT: One in 13 Atlantans are under government surveillance or corrections for a low-level drug charge. 76% of them are African American.
  • FACT: This costs tax payers and those caught in the system a lot of money that could be spent on more effective safety measures.
